“Give thanks in all circumstances, for this is Gods will for you in Christ Jesus.” -1 Thessalonians 5:18
As Thanksgiving approaches, it’s the perfect time to pause and reflect on the journey of the past year. Each of us has experienced moments of joy and challenge, and taking a moment to ask, “What am I thankful for?” opens our hearts to see God’s faithfulness in our lives.
Reflecting on the blessings and trials we have encountered this year helps us realize how God’s hand has been with us every step of the way. “Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His love endures forever” (Psalm 107:1). This Thanksgiving, let’s make a practice of gratitude by acknowledging each blessing and even finding purpose in our struggles.
Personally, I experienced the loss of my father this year. Saying goodbye was not easy, but I am deeply grateful for the chance to tell him, “I love you and thank you for all you have done,” while he was still with us. His life, dedicated to his family and hard work, is a legacy I will carry forward. I am thankful for the faith of my family in Christ Jesus. For believers, death is not the end, but a transition to eternal peace through Jesus Christ, who conquered death for us. As Jesu promised, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die” (John 11:25).
My mother’s life has changed too. Now, her deepest joy is participating in the life of the church more actively. She attends a small group meeting once a week, Sunday worship services, and Wednesday services. During each Sunday worship service, she prays, “Father God, thank you for allowing me to worship you today, too. Please bring me back next Sunday to praise you again.” Her commitment to worship and prayer inspires me every day and reminds me of the importance of a grateful heart. I am so thankful for her prayers and for the unwavering love of family.
So, what are you grateful for this season? Perhaps it’s your health, your loved ones, a caring friend, or the presence of God through both joy and hardship. Tak time this Thanksgiving to consider the blessings – big and small- and offer thanks to God. Psalm 103:2 says, “Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all His benefits.” May this Thanksgiving e a time of true gratitude as we count our blessings and praise God for His goodness.
As you reflect may you be filled with peace, joy, and a renewed appreciation for the many ways God has blessed your life. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
With a grateful heart, Pastor Hannah
