Dear Beloved Church Family,
As we enter the months of May and June, our hearts naturally turn toward two special celebrations – Mother’s Day and Father’s Day. These are more than just dates on a calendar; they are reminders of the tender and strong love that reflects the very heart of God.
I recently came across a touching story that reminded me of this divine love:
A young boy was caught in a house fire. Flames and smoke surrounded him as he cried out from an upstairs window. Firefighters arrived quickly, but the staircase was already engulfed in flames. Suddenly, the boy’s father appeared below, shouting, “Jump! I’ll catch you!” The boy, scared and unable to see through the smoke, cried back, “But I can’t see you!” The father called out again, “That’s okay, I can see you!”
The story moved me deeply, because it paints a powerful picture of how both mothers and fathers often love us – sacrificially, protectively, and unconditionally. Even when we can’t see clearly or understand everything, they are there, ready to catch us, guide us, and love us through the storms of life.
In Isaiah 66:13, God says, “As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you.” And in Psalm 103: 13, “As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him.” These verses remind us that the love we’ve received from mothers and fathers – whether biological, adoptive, or spiritual – is a reflection of God’s own steadfast and nurturing love.
This season, let us honor and give thanks for those who have shown us this love. And if this season is hard for you – because of grief, distance, or strained relationships – may you find peace in the arms of your Heavenly Parent, who sees you, knows you, and loves you more than anyone else ever could.
With gratitude and hope,
Hannah
