On Wednesday, February 18th, we’ll gather for Ash Wednesday to begin the 40-day journey of Lent.
In the Bible, the number 40 always signals a time of preparation. Noah waited 40 days for the rain to stop, and Jesus spent 40 days in the wilderness before starting his ministry. This “holy pause” is God’s way of getting our hearts ready for something big.
Think of Lent like preparing a garden. Before the flowers of Easter can bloom, we have to clear out the rock and soften the soil. It’s quiet, messy work, but it’s how we make room for new life. The ashes we received on Wednesday remind us that we aren’t in control and that we deeply need God’s grace.
Over the next few weeks, I invite you to ask yourself:
- What do I need to let go of?
- Where does my heart need a little softening?
- How can I make more room for Jesus through prayer or helping others?
Lent isn’t about being perfect. It’s about being intentional. Let’s walk this path together so that when Easter arrives, our celebration will be all the more joyful.
